SENATOR:

As now the custodial parent of my 13 year-old son, I must object to the changes proposed in SB 1312 and request you VOTE NO on this bill. This is another measure that will not help children to receive financial support but merely further punish parents who are unable to pay. Reducing non-custodial parents to below the poverty levels aggravates the problem, not correct it. Changes to the Child support laws must be constructive – not destructive!

The Commonwealth of Virginia would be better served by reforming our judicial system, which is all but corrupt in this area of law. The biases practiced everyday by judges make a mockery of the laws you enact. While never offered any leniency as a non-custodial parent, the judge in my case denied my request for financial support from my son’s mother when I received custody because "she did not have a job."

I may have nothing to gain or lose by SB 1312 but I know it is grossly unfair. VOTE NO – SB 1312
